Written in the post-colonial era, the story is set in British India and describes the development of an Irish orphan from the Indian bazaar and his identity quest. What is identity? What characteristics give information about someone’s identity? Origin? Language? Passport or, as the name beautifully displays, identity cards? This question comes up several times while reading Rudyard Kipling’s novel Kim. ![]() However, when you start thinking about the identity of another person, the first problems arise.
